Hello world

My name is SE (Sarah Elizabeth)

I am passionate about the evolving relationship between psychology and technology, particularly the role of AI in mental health. My work is driven by a commitment to making evidence based mental health support more accessible and effective through technology and implementation science. I am interested in the psychological processes underlying human-AI interactions—how people develop trust and emotional connections with generative AI—and the impact of these interactions on mental health. My research currently focuses on two intersecting areas: studying how people use off-the-shelf generative AI for mental health support, and developing and evaluating digital mental health interventions that integrate trained large language models.

I am a Clinical Psychology PhD student at the University of California - Irvine, under the mentorship of Dr. Stephen Schueller. Before starting my PhD, I was a research specialist in Dr. Schueller's TEAM Lab. I also held research positions at Twill Therapeutics, the Division of Digital Psychiatry at BIDMC, and the Emotion and Mental Health Lab at Washington University in St. Louis.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychological and Brain Sciences from Washington University in St. Louis in 2021. Throughout undergrad, I supported myself as a Research and Data Coordinator in the Division of Geriatrics and Nutritional Sciences at Washington University School of Medicine.

Before pivoting to psychology, I wrote code and wrangled data.
